Service 03 / Answer engine optimization

Be the answer. Not a link.

Your next customer is going to ask an assistant who to hire. It will name two or three businesses. There is no page two. We do the entity, schema, and citation work that puts you in that sentence.

Why the old
work fails

Ranking third for "omaha plumber" mattered when there were ten links. It matters less when the answer is a paragraph with two names in it.

01

Models cite sources

They do not read your homepage and feel charmed. They pull structured facts from places that agree with each other.

02

You are an entity

Not a page. If your name, address, and hours disagree across sources, the model gets uncertain and names someone else.

03

Answers are quotable

Pages written as sales copy give a model nothing to lift. Pages that answer real questions plainly get quoted verbatim.

04

It has to be measured

You cannot tell whether you are named without asking, repeatedly, across every assistant. So we ask, monthly, and report it.

The
work

No mystique. This is the actual checklist.

Entity audit across every source that describes you
Name, address, and phone reconciled everywhere
Google Business Profile rebuilt and maintained
Schema: LocalBusiness, Service, FAQ, Product
Question-shaped content that models can quote
Citation building on sources assistants actually read
Review velocity and response strategy
Prompt tracking across five assistants, monthly
Competitor answer share, tracked over time
A report that names positions, not adjectives

What is AEO, and is it different from SEO?

Answer engine optimization is the work of getting an AI assistant to name your business in its answer. Traditional SEO tries to rank a page in a list of links. AEO tries to get your business into a sentence. They share plumbing, such as schema and site health, but the target is different: SEO optimizes a page, AEO optimizes an entity.

Which assistants does this cover?

ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, Perplexity, Copilot, and Gemini. We track each one separately because they pull from different sources and change independently.

How do you prove it worked?

We run a fixed set of buying questions your customers would actually ask, against each assistant, on a schedule. You get a monthly report showing whether you were named, in what position, and which source was cited. It is a measurement, not a vibe.

How long until it works?

First movement usually shows in 30 to 60 days. Entity and citation work compounds, so month six looks very different from month two. Anyone promising results in two weeks is selling something else.

What does it cost?

It is a monthly retainer, and it scales with how many locations you have and how competitive your market is. A single-location service business costs a fraction of what a twelve-location franchise does. The quick audit is free, and it is the form on this page. That will tell you whether you have a problem worth paying to fix.

Can I do some of this myself?

Yes, and we will tell you how: fix your Google Business Profile, make your name, address and phone identical everywhere they appear, and add real schema. That is a genuine start and it costs nothing but an afternoon. Where we earn our keep is the compounding part, keeping your entity consistent across dozens of sources and tracking what the assistants say month after month.

Why does AEO matter for a local business?

Because the person who used to type 'plumber near me' and scan ten links now asks an assistant and gets two names. There is no page two. If the model does not know you exist, you are not in the consideration set at all, and you will never see the traffic you did not get.

Which matters more, SEO or AEO?

Both, and they share plumbing. Good schema, a fast site, and consistent business data serve both. The difference is the target: SEO optimises a page to rank, AEO optimises an entity to be named. Doing only classic SEO in 2026 is defending a hill people have started walking around.

How do assistants decide who to name?

They lean on structured data, on business information that agrees with itself across many sources, on third-party mentions they consider credible, and on content written so it can be quoted. They are not charmed by your homepage copy. Consistency and structure beat persuasion.

What is the difference between AEO and GEO?

Mostly vocabulary. Answer engine optimization and generative engine optimization describe the same work: being named in a generated answer. Some people use GEO for the generative side and AEO more broadly. Anyone selling them as two different products is selling you one thing twice.

Can you guarantee ChatGPT will name me?

Nobody can promise what a model will say, and we would be careful of anyone who does. What we control is everything that feeds the answer: a consistent entity, correct schema, citations that exist, and content written so it can be quoted. Then we measure it every month across five assistants, so you can watch it move rather than take our word for it.

What is the fastest fix?

Your Google Business Profile, then making your name, address, and phone identical everywhere they appear. Most local businesses have three slightly different versions of themselves on the internet and wonder why they are a coin flip. That work is unglamorous and it moves the needle before anything clever does.

Do reviews affect AI answers?

Yes, both the volume and the recency, and increasingly what the reviews actually say. A model summarising why people like a business is reading the text, not just the star average. Twenty reviews that describe what you are good at outperform a hundred that say 'great service'.

How is this different from traditional SEO?

Traditional SEO optimises a page so it ranks in a list of links. This optimises your business as an entity so a model will name it in a sentence. They share plumbing, so good SEO work makes this easier, and a good SEO already has you halfway there. The part that is new is the measuring: knowing every month whether the assistants actually name you.
